Colby Hartje, PGA Head Golf Professional
Colby Hartje was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and attended Redondo Union High School where he played varsity soccer and baseball as well as recreational golf with friends. It wasn’t until after high school when his love for golf blossomed and he decided to attend the Golf Academy of America, San Diego. Following graduation from the Golf Academy in 2004, Colby accepted an Assistant Golf Professional position at Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles and completed his PGA Class A Membership Requirements in 2008. He then went on to be the First Assistant Golf Professional at TPC at Valencia Golf Club working for Western Golf Properties. In 2011, he was promoted and moved over to Rancho Vista Golf Club in Palmdale to take over as the Head Golf Professional where he had a successful stint of 3 years before moving on to be the Head Golf Professional at Elkins Ranch in 2014. He was promoted to Director of Golf in 2015 and held that position until February of 2018 when he accepted the General Manager position at Chester Washington Golf Course in Los Angeles. Colby happily accepted the opportunity to become the Head Golf Professional at Santa Barbara Golf Club in January of 2019 and is looking forward to being close to his family who lives here in the Santa Barbara area. In his free time, Colby loves to spend time with his three children (Landon 9, Logan 9 & Eli 6), teach golf, play golf and play competitive poker tournaments. Two interesting facts about Colby are that he was a finalist in the 2011 United States Putting Championship in Carlsbad, California and he also competed in the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event. His greatest professional accomplishment was being awarded the Bob Strausbaugh award for the Northern Chapter of the Southern California Professional Golfers Association in 2017.

Brent Cole, PGA
Brent Cole has been a PGA member since 1997 and has experienced 20+ years at Santa Barbara Golf Club. Brent is a Santa Barbara native, he graduated from San Marcos High School as well as UC Santa Barbara. He excels at making connections with golfers and understanding their needs. His simple teaching style is easy to follow and allows golfers of every level to learn something new to improve their game.

Richard Chavez, PGA
Richard Chavez has been a member of the PGA since 1976. He has worked at La Cumber CC as well as became owner-operator of Twin Lakes GC from 1977-2000. Richard was Director of Golf at SBGC from 1981-2008 and is now teach at SBGC and Ivey Ranch CC in Palm Desert, Wednesday-Saturday from 10-3.
Richard won Golf Professional of the Year SCPGA in 2000, Club fitter of the Year in 2005 in the NCPGA and inducted into the SCPGA Hall of Fame in 2010.

Doug Crane, PGA
TFT Coach | Site Director at SBGC
Doug Crane is a Class A PGA member and a recognized The First Tee Coach. Doug has run popular junior golf camps and clinics in Santa Barbara for over 16 years. He was a golf professional in Hawaii at the Waikoloa Resort before moving back to his hometown in Santa Barbara to open Glen Annie Golf Club. He then became the Head Golf Professional at Rancho San Marcos. He later became Director of instruction at Twin Lakes Golf and Learning Center. Doug is married to Lisa and has two children, Alex and Kirra.

Larry Buker, Golf Instructor“Lefty” Larry Buker is a native of Boston, Massachusetts and moved toSanta Barbara in 1970. He earned a Business Administration Bachelor’s Degree, with a focus on Office Systems Management, at CSUN in 1996. Larry began playing golf at the age of 33. During his beginning years in learning to play the game, his passion and desire grew immensely. Larry began working in the Golf Shop at Santa Barbara Golf Club in 2005. His passion to teach the game has continued to grow and is lead by the desire to help golfers of all levels, especially juniors. Currently, he is the program coordinator and lead Coach with The Russ Morrison Junior Golf Program which he has been involved as an Instructor since 2005. Larry’s passion to help others is proven by being the Instructor for Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH) “Adaptive Golf Program” since 2004. Other past experiences include: junior volunteer coach with the First Tee Program from 2006-2008, Pro Advisor for SBJGA 2014-2016, and being a golf instructor for UCSB Recreational Sports beginning & intermediate program 2007-2010. “Lefty” Larry has proven his playing skills by successfully passing the PGA’s Players Ability Test in 2008. He teaches basic fundamentals and works with all ages and abilities of golfers to improve their mental game skills and promote positive reinforcement.

Sydney Wasem, Golf Instructor
Sydney Wasem is a PGA Apprentice and Teaching Professional at Santa Barbara Golf Club. Prior to employment in 2014 at Santa Barbara Golf Club, Sydney attended The Golf Academy of America (GAA) in San Diego where he earned his Associate Degree in Golf Operations & Management. During his tenure at GAA, he studied golf instruction and received his teaching certificate. He has a love for the game of golf and is grateful to be at a facility in his home town. Teaching is one of Sydney’s passions and he loves to be a part of something that is helping to grow the great game of golf for years to come!
