Larry Buker, Golf Instructor“Lefty” Larry Buker is a native of Boston, Massachusetts and moved to
Santa Barbara in 1970. He earned a Business Administration Bachelor’s Degree, with a focus on Office Systems Management, at CSUN in 1996. Larry began playing golf at the age of 33. During his beginning years in learning to play the game, his passion and desire grew immensely. Larry began working in the Golf Shop at Santa Barbara Golf Club in 2005. His passion to teach the game has continued to grow and is lead by the desire to help golfers of all levels, especially juniors. Currently, he is the program coordinator and lead Coach with The Russ Morrison Junior Golf Program which he has been involved as an Instructor since 2005. Larry’s passion to help others is proven by being the Instructor for Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH) “Adaptive Golf Program” since 2004. Other past experiences include: junior volunteer coach with the First Tee Program from 2006-2008, Pro Advisor for SBJGA 2014-2016, and being a golf instructor for UCSB Recreational Sports beginning & intermediate program 2007-2010. “Lefty” Larry has proven his playing skills by successfully passing the PGA’s Players Ability Test in 2008. Saralisa Ortega, Golf Shop Assistant
Saralisa Ortega was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and started playing golf with her father at the age of 5 years old. Saralisa went to Santa Barbara High School and played on the Girls Golf Varsity team all four years. She was Most Improved Player in 2009, Most Valuable Player in 2012, Athlete of the Year at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table (SBART) Hall of Fame for High School Girls Golf in 2012-2013, Channel League Champion, and was also athlete of the week. Saralisa graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 2013 and went to Santa Barbara City College and played two years on the Girls Golf Team. In Fall of 2013, Saralisa and her team won the State Championship. In 2014, Saralisa was Athlete of the Year for SBART - College Women’s Golf 2014-2015, and also received the Vaquero Award for Women’s Golf. After playing for two year at SBCC, in March of 2015, she started working at the Santa Barbara Golf Club in the Golf Shop as a Golf Shop Assistant. The following spring, she began working with The Russ Morrison Junior Golf program and is now an Assistant Coach to over 100+ juniors. Her passion is working with kids and teaching them the fundamentals of golf. Saralisa continues to be an avid golfer and is a big part of the growth of junior golf within the region.
