Description:  Golf practice and theory open to all levels of experience. Supervised course play is included for advanced participants (Blue Group).

Goals:  Encourage kids to enjoy and learn about golf in an organized program and supportive environment.

Activities:

  • Putting, chipping, and full swing. Golf Q and A. Swing lessons. Occasional on course orientation and play.
  • Annual Free RMJG Golf Tournament for Red, White, and Blue Group golfers.

Ages:  7 to 17 (most participation ages from 7-14)

Cost:  Spring Session - $135 | Fall Session - $135 | All Year - $210

Schedule:  Saturdays | Jan-May and June-Oct | 3:30 - 5:00 | Wednesday "Blue Group" Course Play at 3:30

SESSIONS  1-5  MEET AT SBGC Instruction Area at the Driving Range

Content: Intros/class overview/attendance - (as your schedules allow because our program is NOT cumulative)

Clinics consist of three main stations: putting, short game pitches/chipping) & full swing. Full swing starts with lofted clubs: P, W, S wedges to Driver.  Static components of swing- PGA (Posture, Grip, Alignment).

Grip: 3 basic types of grips: 10-finger, interlock, overlap (Vardon)

Swing mechanics- Wedge vs Driver: Rotation (shoulders & hips), length of swing (clock), and balance.

Evaluations of junior golf skills and abilities to determine group color (Red, White, & Blue). Coaches will select qualified White group juniors to participate with Blue groups on Wednesdays.

Typically take Russ Morrison youngsters out on the golf course once every 6-7 sessions to play golf.  We review order of play; rules & etiquette (how to behave, politeness), penalty area (lateral, sand, out of bounds)

SESSIONS 6-10 MEET AT SBGC Instruction Area at the Driving Range

Content: working on long and short components of golf skills

Putting mechanics- pendulum motion, quiet hands, eyes over the golf ball; “reading the green”, stroking vs hitting the putt; distance control

Chipping mechanics- partial swing rotation (half circle vs full, slow-motion movement, no hinge, hinge and hold, hinge and re-hinge)

Full Swing mechanics- Dynamic components (moving parts) of the golf swing; creating leverage- wrist hinge...lower body rotation (pivot)

Clubs: pitching wedge, 7 iron, (longer too...no hybrids or woods)

Every shot must have a purpose...shoot at targets

SESSIONS 11-15 MEET AT SBGC Instruction Area at the Driving Range

Content: Overview of prior sessions with advanced knowledge & skills dependent of students’ abilities and skill level.

Evaluations of junior golf skills and abilities to determine group color (Red, White, & Blue). Coaches will select qualified White group juniors to participate with Blue groups on Wednesdays.

Clubs: pitching wedge through all irons, hybrid, fairway woods & driver.

Fall Year-End Golf Tournament

MEET AT SBGC MAIN PUTTING GREEN by the GOLF SHOP at 2 pm

Content: 9-hole bule group, 6-hole white group, 4-hole scramble for red group. Low Gross awards for each group.
RUSS MORRISON JUNIOR GOLF is designed to put the golf club(s) in the junior golfer’s hands first and then teach FUNdamentals.  Clinics are ongoing Saturdays and not cumulative. Participant’s may attend as many or as few sessions as family schedules permit and still be active in the Program and learning at their own pace.  Brothers, sisters, classmates, neighbors, friends, peers are ALL welcome.

Our program invites and utilizes parent volunteers, high school, and college golf team players.  Parents are encouraged to stay for all or part of the Saturday sessions offering love and support to all the participants.
